Last Wednesday, I left my current home in San José, Costa Rica, to head to the Latin Link Central America regional conference in Mixco, part of Guatemala City. After a total flight time of about an hour, we landed in Guatemala City without incident. Despite a bit of trouble finding the place (the conference centre was in the middle of a warehouse district!), the whole thing generally went well. I enjoyed seeing my friends (and making new ones), and it was really cool and encouraging to find out what the whole team are actually doing with themselves, as I hadn't really known before. We also had some 'business', which was rather boring, especially as it was all in Spanish, but I think it was probably necessary, so never mind! So, what am I writing about, I hear you asking! The return journey, back to San José. We left the conference centre at half past four in the morning, and I didn't get back home until six in the evening. So what happened? What made a short, five hundred mile journey, that should have taken less than two hours, take twelve? I can summarise in one word: Nicaragua.
